Happy Birthday to Mohanlal

The living legend and icon of Malayalam cinema is turning 50 today (May 21). Lalettan as he is affectionately known among millions of Malayalees world over is keeping it a very private affair.

His fans in Kerala and other parts of the world wanted to celebrate it in a big way, but the star himself has told them that he wants to keep it simple and a very private affair. His fan clubs wanted a very ostentatious big bash in Thiruvananthapuram his home town, but the actor refused to take part in any pompous birthday celebrations.

Mohanlal told sify.com: “I really don’t believe in a big bash or celebrating it in a glitzy manner. It is going to be a very private affair as some of my close friends who grew with me are planning a party for me.”

Mohanlal will be spending his birthday at home in Chennai with wife Suchitra, and children Appu and Maya. In the evening Mohanlal’s close buddies led by director Priyadarshan, singer MG Sreekumar, actor and producer Manian Pillai Raju and a few other buddies are planning “a private birthday party at a exotic getaway near Chennai”.

Priyanka Chopra has found her first husband (Ok! Screen husband.), Malayalam actor Mohanlal, for Vishal Bhardwaj’s comedy 7 Husbands. There are six more to go.

Mohanlal, 50, has earlier featured in Bollywood films such as Priyadarshan’s Yeh Teraa Ghar Yeh Meraa Ghar (2001), Ram Gopal Varma’s Company (2002), Aag (2007) and Rajkumar Santoshi’s Halla Bol (2008).

Vishal Bhardwaj is on a look out for the six remaining male actors who will be wedded to Priyanka in the film. There were reports that Hrithik Roshan is likely to be the lead with Priyanka but there is no word yet from the Bhardwaj camp.

Filming is scheduled to begin in March 2010.

Vishal Bhardwaj and Priyanka Chopra last teamed up for Kaminey (2009) in which Priyanka and co-star Shahid Kapoor received rave reviews.

Priyanka Chopra is awaiting start of production of Siddharth Anand’s Anjaana Anjaani with co-star Ranbir Kapoor.

The film – to be shot in Bangkok, New York, San Jose, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Mumbai – will begin on December 11 and end on December 31.

Padmashri Mohanlal who is also a 3-time National Award winning actor was given the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was inducted in to the Territorial Army on July 9 after Army Chief Deepak Kapoor did the honours to the actor in a grand ceremony in Delhi. After Kapil Dev was inducted in to the TA in 2008, Mohanlal is the second big celebrity who has been given the honorary rank.

The Lt Col rank has been given to the actor following his patriotic performances in superhit Malayalam movies like Kurukshetra and Keerthichakra. The actor will now officially join the 122nd infantry battalion of the Madras Regiment in Kannur. The actor may also be the brand ambassador of the Territorial Army and is expected to tour schools and colleges in the country to induct youth in to the army.
